Why I Chose the Path of Japanese Irezumi
Journal Entry No. 2
When people ask me why I specialize in Authentic Japanese Irezumi, my answer is simple.
I never chose it because it was popular.
I chose it because it gave me a lifetime of learning.
The more I studied traditional Japanese tattooing, the more I realized there was always another lesson waiting to be discovered.
Every dragon, koi, tiger, flower, and background carries generations of meaning, symbolism, and artistic tradition. Every composition teaches balance, movement, and respect for the human body.
That endless depth is what has kept me inspired for more than three decades.
As my journey continued, I was fortunate to travel to Japan and study more closely with my Sensei, Horiyoshi III. Receiving my own traditional tattoo work deepened my appreciation for the patience, discipline, and commitment required to preserve this art form.
Those experiences changed the way I view tattooing.
Today, I don't simply create tattoos.
I work to create compositions that flow naturally with the body, respect traditional Japanese design principles, and tell a story that will remain meaningful throughout a collector's life.
There is no finish line in this journey.
Every collector teaches me something new.
Every project presents a new challenge.
Every tattoo is another opportunity to continue learning while honoring the generations of artists who preserved this tradition before me.
I still approach every day as a student.
And I hope I always will.
